Description

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic person to join their senior public health team for two years fixed term.

The postholder will contribute to public health priorities, working with the Director of Public Health in the leadership of public health, and the delivery of public health improvement, health protection and health intelligenceand the discharge of local authority public health functions.

As the consultant you will be pivotal to this work particularly in supporting the delivery of the prevention agenda and through providing public health leadership and advocacy across the local health and care system.

You’ll focus on health at a population level, looking at ways to make communities and environments healthier, reducing ill-health and tackling health inequalities.

This post requires specialist public health leadership to ensure that impacts on health are considered in the development and implementation of all policies.

You will prepare, manage and monitor the budget for your portfolio area and you will ensure effective leadership, motivation and development of staff. On a regular basis you will review resources, services and partnership arrangements in order to identify opportunities to improve service delivery.

To be successful in this role you will need management experience in a local authority or health service role as well as professional registration at specialist level.

You will need to have an acute understanding of the link between economic success and good health and build this into your strategy for tackling and prioritising public health issues.

You will be expected to formulate a clear, targeted long-term strategies that ensure health and social care, education, housing, jobs and economic policies and infrastructure, and communities, community assets and the third sector are shaped in ways which deliver the maximum benefit to population health.

You will need excellent decision-making skills and the ability to lead others and inspire positive change.

It is critical that you have high level communication and negotiation skills and you can use these to develop strong working relationships both internally and externally.

Currently the team is hybrid working, with 1-2 days in the office.

You must have:

Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists.

Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body.
